Together with 5 donors we made sure Forzia's school cost was paid for the 2013-2014 academic school year! Now we are fundraising for her 2014-2015 academic year.
Forzia is an 11 year old 5th grader in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. Forzia lives with her family in a rural community near the border of the Ivory Coast. Children in rural communities are particularly vulnerable to not completing school. Forzia attends an affordable private school (a private school that intends to serve the poor) called Yesu Mmo. Parents of students like Forzia's often prefer a low-fee private school to a free public school because they feel the quality of education is better. Public schools often incur a cost in the form of uniform costs, exam fees and other sometimes sanctioned and sometimes not sanctioned fees. Parents feel that the tuition cost is worth a quality education.
Forzia likes studying science and dreams about being a medical doctor when she grows up. She believes her education will bring success to her life. African women that are educated earn 25% more income and are three time less likely to contract HIV/AIDS. Forzia is enthusiastic in her studies and enjoys reading and skipping rope. Her father works as a taxi driver and sometimes can not work because there isn't enough gasoline in the town to fuel his vehicle. When he can work, he has to compete with a number of other taxi drivers for a limited number of patrons. His earnings don't always cover the cost of operating his vehicle.
Her father shared how difficult it is for his family to pay the school fees for five children and recognizes that tuition assistance would allow him to better provide clothing, sandals, and books for his children. He is motivated to educate his children and expressed much gratitude for the opportunity to receive assistance with Forzia’s education. It will only take $158 for us to help Forzia attend school for a year. Together we can make a difference!
